About Us

Since taking over Lower Hey Kennels on 1st June 2022, we have worked hard on making the kennels into a happy environment for your pets to visit and stay. We are not new to caring for animals and have a wealth of experience gathered over many years working in Rescue, Pet Transport and Zoo’s.

We moved back to the UK from Portugal where we run a Rescue, a registered charity for all animals in need. Here we looked after a multitude of different animals including dog, cats, horses, pigs and goats and we often had up to 140 animals in our care. Whilst there we dedicated our time to help all those poor souls who were abandoned on the streets in Portugal, where the treatment of animals was very poor in many circumstances. We worked alongside a number of UK charities with regards to rehoming in the UK and have over the years rehomed over 250 dogs and cats to new homes in the UK.

It was due to the rehoming of animals that we set up Purrfect Pet Transport as we wanted to ensure we transported our animals in the best conditions possible before their new life in the UK. We have worked hard to ensure our transport business adheres to all the required rules and regulations, including have approved transporter authorisation in both the UK and EU. We also now have to hold UK operators licences to transport within the EU, which has meant additional training and inspections ensuring our vehicles meet the criteria needed by the DVSA.

On top of the levels of commitment to animal care and handling in these environments we have also had experience working with zoo animals such as various primates, snakes and cats, and Mark has studied at university gaining a Phd in animal behaviour.

Our move back to the UK and subsequently taking over Lower Hey Kennels was the obvious choice for us to make and know that we will make sure your pets are treated as our own family in many ways whilst they stay with us.
